Poetry – the city of progress

Webs of smoke hung mid air

leaving the building-tops unfocused and seeming to go up forever

undeterred they swarmed clicking the wet asphalt creating an atmosphere of noise.

then silence.

no one in sight, an empty model of a city, unused.

occupying towers of concrete and steel, where they learn life is precious.

the real world tries to make contact, like a

flower peeping out of a crack in the pavement

only to be stepped on and put back in it’s place.

How much does our taste in music direct our lives?

In today’s world our culture is dictated to us by the entertainment we seek.

Music, Film, advertising for products, Sports; all forms of entertainment shape our culture.

Most of us are heavily into music, lots of the time it is a certain genre of music.

Growing up you most likely stuck around those that also listened to your particular genre of music.

Consider this

  • Depending on the genre of music you associated yourself with you began to dress, talk and act a certain stereotypical way.
  • You surrounded yourself with those who had a similar taste in music that you did.
  • Your direction in life; such as the career choices you made and the places that you frequented to meet people were partly if not fully influenced by the music you listened to.

What if?

What if you chose to like a different style of music and associate with different types of people?

Would you be where you are today?

Would you have the same friends?

Would you hold the same job?

Would you have the same partner? Would you have ever met your partner?

Controlling people through entertainment

We are purposely controlled through all forms of entertainment. We are told that we like certain things and we believe it because we are shown advertisements of other people enjoying these things.

In reality if we look deep down inside ourselves we will see that all we really want is happiness and rather than settle for what we are told will make us happy; we need to seek it out ourselves.

Going with the crowd will keep us happy and ensure that we have common interests to talk with others. But to be truly happy we need to be selfish and find what makes us happy, only then with our happiness can we help others to be happy.

MUSIC

I love music and have spent most of my life in the music industry, but it is a business and it must sell. People need to know that as good food will keep your body healthy so to will good positive music keep your soul healthy so avoid the demonic artists as much as you can. You know which ones I’m talking about.

Parenting Poetry – Living Life

Happiness is when;

Children can be loud and messy

The cleaning up can wait

All worries disappear

When bonding escalates

You can see each other

Without the need to rush

And spend some time just talking

Really not about that much

Arguments do take place

All points of view are heard

But just as fast they go away

Without the use of words

To live a life of fulfilment

To raise your children right

To find the love of someone else

Is truly living life

The Common Man

The trials of the common man
He knows where his desires stand
righteousness is seldom planned
A puppet for the hidden hand

Shifting thoughts on their demand
He wishes to be shown the truth
Reads the paper and the news
Unaware, it’s what they choose

Drenched in his own happiness
indoctrinated by the best
Content with sport, beer and sex
It’s always been this way, he bets

Can’t comprend the other side
Why the people choose to fight
when the bombs and mortar fly
Not a tear had left his eye

Thinks that others want his life
they’re envious behind his eyes
If only he could see the lies
perhaps his passion would ignite

But all is lost for common men
their happy with the world their in
no need to think or care for them
They are the enemies my friend

The Night

The night just arouses suspicion.

Streets laced with lamps, clouds in a trance.

Time seems to lose its position.

Trying to flee, the darkness I see,

Heart rate increases, “Is this a dream?”

Where will I be without sanity?

Madness is not a decision.

I walk amongst angels, discussing this life,

Feeding my soul, enhancing my sight.

But if I blink I’ll be lonesome tonight.

Your mind is the ultimate prison.

“Where are they going?” The on-lookers say.

Pointing and smirking, as if they’re o.k.

Most-likely knowing, they envy our way.

If not then why would they listen.

Trying to flee, the darkness in me,

Examine my youth, and all that I see,

Vague memories about sanity.

Madness I hear when I listen

Now is the time for action

It is time

Now is the time for action. Over the years our drive for success and fulfillment have vanished or been replaced with a drive for responsibility and routine. On the face of it it’s all very necessary especially when we have wives and children to take care of. But while giving it some thought the only way to progress through hard times is to work even harder and smarter.

The main reason we do not push ourselves like we did in the past is because we do so much that we cannot ponder the idea of fitting more work into the day.

THE MACHINE MAN

As a single man life was easy and time was available. But my time became more precious and fleeting as I married and had children.

The problem was not a need to dodge my responsibilities as a parent and husband but to embrace them, achieve them and also have time to climb further at work and grow as a person.

After thinking of how I could be there for my wife and kids as well as get that promotion at work or make time to write that novel I realised that I’d have to become a machine man.

BECOMING A MACHINE MAN

I dismissed all suggestions and traditions of what husbands and fathers should do, I focused on what I wanted to achieve and decided that if I could manage my time well then I could achieve anything that I wanted to.

I started to think of myself as a machine and realized that the harder I worked and the more I did, the easier it became for me.

SELF-CONDITIONING

In summation if I was lazy then I conditioned myself into only having the ability to do a little, but if I was hard-working then I was conditioning myself to do more.

The easiest way to achieve results in life is to begin them as good habits then do them routinely until they become a structured part of your everyday life.

There are many things that are good for us in life, some of the things that I feel are essential to me have been purposely weaved through my daily routine. And they are.

  • 30 minutes exercise each morning
  • eat an orange a day
  • at least 30 minutes of sunshine each day
  • stay away from fried food
  • no cigarettes or alcohol
  • positive self-talk
  • have fun with my fellow-workers, wife and children
  • put on a smile even when I’m not happy
  • Stand-up straight and sit-up straight
  • be confident

It has taken me years but I have included all of the above points into my everyday routine, sure sometimes I miss a few but I don’t get stressed  I just tell myself I’m having an off day and try even harder the next day.

CONCLUSION

When there is a need for extra work to be done you can find the strength within yourself. It will not come instantly but only by instilling new good habits into your daily routine. Start them off one by one.

You will find that the more work you do, the more you will be able to achieve and hunger to work even harder. Achieving things will also boost your confidence immensely.
With confidence in yourself you can shape your life into what you want it to be and achieve anything that you want to achieve.
